Churchill: Fire victims still waiting in the People's Republic of Cohoes

Cohoes The Cohoes fire brought out the best in people. In the weeks after the blaze devastated a chunk of the city's downtown, the kindhearted donated more than $100,000 to its victims. That is no small sum. It's a remarkable achievement. But as of this writing, six weeks after the fire, not a penny of that generosity has been distributed to victims, and some are rightly wondering what is taking so long. "This is money that people really need," said Greg Dyer, 44, who lost his Remsen Street apartment to the blaze. "I believe a lot of the donors expected that money to be issued by now.
